Dear Glynis,

I really do feel for you being in so much pain.

Providing you don’t make your back worse - have you tried getting a pillow or cushion and beating the s**t out of it until you can’t lift your arms any more?

You could always try going back to your GP and ask for stronger pain killers if your current ones arn’t working.

With regards to your counselling ending, there are helplines and support services run charities such as MIND, Depression Alliance, Samairtans, SANE etc have you thought of contacting them to see if they have any suggestions?

There are also online therapy services such as the MoodGym on the front page of this site and there is something I came across yesterday called PSTec (just google this) which according to the testimonials is providing an incredible amount of help for people with anxiety and depression and other emotional problems in exceptionally short time periods - you can download sample “click tracks” for free - so if you have headphones for your computer you could give this a go. As its free, what have you got to lose by giving it a try?

Please don’t give up, other people who used to be on this site have recovered, including Helen, so there is no reason why we can’t too.

If you do try any of these services please can you let us all know how you got on.

We are all backing you all the way.

All the best,

Karma

Good morning Glynis, I’m not surprised you’re feeling like you are with mental AND physical pain.  I just wanted to let you know that a relative of mine suffers from bad arthritis and is feeling much better after two weeks of taking Omegaflex, an omega EPA and glucosamine that is pharmaceutical grade.  It might be worth a try if you’re not already and if you are, are they a high grade and pure form?  Patrick Holford has a very good book out called. ‘Say No to Arthritis’ that I know has helped people.  I hope you’re feeling better today and had a good wekend.  Thinking of you.  Helen

Karma - thank you for your suggestions. I have been to Mind in the past but our branch doesn’t really offer what I need (that’s a polite way of saying they are not what I expected!). The Sams are great and I do use their email and texting service. I had my last counselling session last Tuesday, so my counsellor says we can now be ‘friends’ rather than counsellor/client. It is online counsellikng so that should work out. We have agreed that we can chat as friends, which may inevitably involve talking about feelings, but if necessary I can arrange ‘one-off’ sessions with him as and when necessary. So I am feeling a bit better about that now.

Helen - I take the omega capsules recommended here (I can’t remember their name) and 1500 mg glucosamine (recommended by my GP) but I don’t know if it counts as pharmaceutical grade. I get it from Boots. I checked out the book you suggested and it looks like it could be very useful so I have sent for a copy. I cancelled the GP appointment I had organised for this afternoon as I decided to take control myself rather than rely on yet more pills. I have nothing against medication, but I already take 6 different meds each day as it is and I don’t think I want to rattle any more loudly than I do already!

I love this site. It is so positive and the suggestions are so good!

Thank you
Glynis

Dear Glynis, I have found what Dr Nina Bailey sent to me about how EPA and glucosamine complement each other for arthritis and thought you might like to read it:  OmegaFlex for joint issues. Definitely. The combo of glucosamine and EPA works well on treating inflammation (a unique combination actually), glucomsamine provides the building block to replace cartilage and synovial fluid, and the edition of CLA and oleic acid protects against bone loss.
hope you’re feeling OK today.  Helen

Hello Helen

Thank you for the link. It is an interesting article and suggests that maybe I need to see my GP about getting a different anti-depressant? I keep making appointments to see him and then cacel them at the last minute because I can’t face going. I don’t know what it is that stops me, something about feeling like a fraud for some reason. My ‘mask’ is so good that it takes a while for people to see through it to how I really feel (both physically and emotionally) and of course that time is not available when I go to see my GP. He doesn’t know me, even though I try to see the same person every time.

Having said that, I have had a good day today. Still in pain but sometimes it is just easier to cope with. I have decided that I need to keep busy, as long as I can find things to keep busy with that don’t make the pain worse lol!

Hi Glynis, our red carpet acting doesn’t do us any favours really does it?!  Hope you’re still doing well.  It is a shame that doctors are so limited for time and can’t really get to know their patients isn’t it.  Take care and hope you have a good week.  Best wishes, Helen
