I’ve been having symptoms of depression for years and there are times that it is beyond the threshold I can deal with. What has worked for you? At what level would you classify your depression. Mild, moderate, or severe?

What has helped?

Which medication(s)?
Have there been any other treatment(s) that you had tried?

I’m looking for some advice on dealing with my depression that hasn’t responded to treatments. I’ve stopped a couple times because nothing seem to have worked. ECT had been offered, but I’m still thinking about it.

Dear Bishvabis, welcome to the site.
I had severe clinical depression and then ‘medication induced’ (the psychiatrist’s explanation) bipolar depression after years of lots of different antidepressants and 14 sessions of ECT.  After many years of taking antidepressants and feeling that they hadn’t worked for me I begged my psychiatrist to take me off them.  He reluctantly agreed and made me promise to take a good omega every day which I have ever since.  I take Vegepa which is EPA which is the strain of omega that lifts mood.  I take 1g a day which is the recommended daily dose.  I also take a herbal remedy Filisa which has been much written about in the press and is taken by celebrities and Joe average like myself.  We are all different and I know people for whom antidepressants work and who feel they couldn’t function without them but they made me feel numb and I can honestly say that I feel so much better on EPA, Filisa and I eat a good diet, and exercise regularly (even when I don’t feel like it.  In fact particularly when I don’t feel like it!).  There have been studies and books written about the omega I take as it is pharmaceutical grade and very pure and purely extracted.  The western diet is very much lacking in omegas and we can all benefit from taking omega supplements.  I also believe that doing more of what we enjoy helps.  It can be something as simple as buying oneself a coffee in the morning.  I never underestimate the power of little things in life.  Cumulatively they are massive.
Take care Bishvabis.  I do hope that you are feeling somewhat better this evening and if not, I hope that you feel better very soon.  Best wishes, Helen
