I thought it might be nice to introduce myself. Help yourself to tea and cake.

I’m female, in my early 20’s and I’ve had issues with depression throughout all of my teenage and adult years. I’ve only recently sought any type of help.
My challenge at the moment is to get back to work which is both terrifying and exciting. I’d love to hear from people in the same situation or anyone with a story to tell.

Hi Cactus, I just wanted to say hello too.  Congratulations on getting help for your depression.  The fact that you feel ready to get back to work suggests that it’s really helped which is fantastic.  I am really pleased that as well as feeling ‘terrified’ about getting back to work you are also feeling ‘excited’.  I feel sure that those two emotions will ensure that your journey back to work is a good one.  I wish you every success in that journey and look forward to sharing it with you if you choose to do so.  Best wishes, Helen

Hi Cactus - well first up congrats on getting the help. Often that’s the most difficult thing to do. Not sure what your line of work is or whether you are returning to an established job. It will be great though to get back in there although tough no doubt about it. I am lucky in that throughout all the dark times I have had my work to give me structure and purpose. If I hadn’t had that I don’t know what I would have done. Just be careful not to take on too much too soon. One step at a time. Good luck - do keep in touch on here and let us know how it goes.

Dear Cactus, I’m not sure from your post if you have a job to go back to or if you are seeking new employment.  Chloe asked if there are companies that can help get people back to work.  There is an article on the site with information about getting help in writing CVs and interviewing if you feel you need it.

Companies and employment agencies are usually good at giving advice if you need to know how to write that you have depression on your CV or explain long periods out of work.  Given that you are young this may not be such an issue for you.  We’re here if you need us Cactus.  We look forward to hearing how you are getting on.  Best wishes, Helen
